That the House of Representatives legislate to establish enforceable truthfulness standards for candidates for elected office, so that any candidate found to have knowingly made false or misleading statements of fact during an election campaign is disqualified from holding elected office.

Petition reason

We request legislation that establishes clear standards for honesty in election campaigns while preserving freedom of expression and robust political debate. This proposal applies only to knowingly false or misleading statements of fact made to influence election outcomes. We believe voters deserve accurate information when deciding who to trust with public office, and that deliberate deception should result in disqualification from holding elected office.
