That the House of Representatives urge the Government to amend the Pacific Access Category and Samoan Quota ballots so that successful ballot applicants are issued a 6-month temporary working visa enabling them to travel to New Zealand, secure employment, and satisfy scheme requirements in person.

Petition reason

We believe the current requirements are practically impossible and create risks. In our experience, it is very difficult for Pacific-based applicants with no NZ working experience to obtain a job offer from an employer they have not met, and we think this creates opportunities for unscrupulous individuals to sell “job offers”. We seek a practical amendment that will reduce uncertainty for applicants, prevent exploitation, and strengthen New Zealand’s relationships with its Pacific partners.
